First Grade Friend

16 04 2013

Do you have a first grade friend? I have one. I met Shawna in first grade and we became fast friends. I moved schools the next year but would occasionally run into her, even in my new town. Turns out she had moved there also. In seventh grade, we were reunited at middle school! Shawna and I remained close friends throughout middle school and high school. I love how God kept her in my life and I love the story of our friendship.

Well, Shawna got in touch with me recently because her oldest son is graduating from high school this year. Talk about coming full circle. Being able to spend some time with Shawna and Jacob recently was a pleasure. He’s become a pretty amazing young man and here is a sneak peek of a few of the images captured that day. I can’t help but think about the friends that Jacob spends time with today, as a senior in high school, and how they will have impacted his life years from now.

Congratulations, Jacob. I truly wish you the best – in your friendships and in your future!

Always Remember

“If ever there’s a tomorrow when we’re not together, there is something you must always remember.  You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.”  Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh

I seriously can not believe this girl graduates from high school next month. It truly is crazy how time flies.  Where is the little girl whose hand I used to hold? Christopher Robin had some great advice to his friend, Winnie the Pooh.  I want Jordan to always remember those things. There are a few more things, however, that I’d also like this amazing girl to always remember.

Jordan,

Always remember that you are “fearfully & wonderfully made” – God uniquely crafted only one of you.  The special talents, gifts, abilities and personality traits you possess are from Him.  Use them as a gift to God, yourself & others.

Always remember that you can do more than you think.  Don’t give up too early.  Push yourself & you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.

Always remember that God is good.  Life can be hard, but God is good.  Seek Him and He will show you His goodness.

Always remember that your smile goes a long way.  Your caring spirit and beautiful smile brightens others on a daily basis.

Always remember that serving others is a perspective-changer.  Not only does God use you to help others and teach you about yourself, but serving others reminds you of all that you have to be thankful for.

Always remember that you are worth it.  You deserve someone who opens doors for you, laughs at your jokes, lifts you up, pays for your dinner, respects your boundaries and loves your God.  You are absolutely worth it.

Always remember that there’s a home that is full of people that love you, 100%, unconditionally.  Always.  We’re here to cry with you over heartache, rejoice with you over victories and listen to you sort things out.  We love to act silly with you, pray with you, meet your friends, throw a football around in the front yard, hear what God’s doing in your life, play board games and just hang out.  We are proud of you, always.

Always remember.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11

Meet Emma. She is friends with our daughter and we absolutely love having her in our home on occasion. Seriously – this girl is funny, smart, postive, beautiful and going places. Emma graduates from high school in May and we know that God has amazing plans for her future. Thank you, Emma, for the gift of your friendship to our family. Be blessed.

A Girl Should Be Two Things…

20 11 2012

“A girl should be two things:  classy and fabulous.”  — CoCo Chanel

Meet Dustyn, senior in high school, who is most definitely classy AND fabulous.  Seriously, this girl is amazing-so sweet, beautiful, strong, caring, great sense of style, creative, funny & mature for her age.   If you don’t know her, you should!!

Here’s a sneak peek of Dustyn’s senior photo shoot…I had a great time exploring some new (to me) areas of downtown OKC and love the looks we captured.

Thank you, Dustyn and family, for allowing me to see this beautiful girl again, now all grown up.

She’s Sixteen…

28 01 2012

and beautiful.

So, she’s actually almost seventeen (gasp!), but here are some pictures I’ve taken of our daughter, Jordan, this year-to celebrate who she is at sixteen.

Strong.  Creative.  Funny.  Independent.  Determined.  Smart.  Dreamer.  Friend.  Compassionate.  Beautiful.  Lover of Life. A light-up-the-room smile.  Helper.  Sister.  Daughter.

These are just a few of the words that describe her, celebrate who she is.

But most of all, she is a gift to us.

“A daughter is one of the most beautiful gifts this world has to give.”  ~ Laurel Atherton

We love you, J.  You are growing into an amazing young woman and we are proud of you!

She’s not three anymore…

16 11 2011

It just so happens I met this beautiful girl when she was three years old…and now she’s graduating from high school in 2012.  I remember nights of doing her nails, playing games & pillow fights when she was a preschooler.  It’s kinda fun to watch someone grow up, especially when they grow into someone who is beautiful, compassionate, funny, smart and in love with Jesus.

Thank you, Mackenzie, for allowing me to take your senior pictures.  It was definitely a privilege for me.  Now one of these days, I really will get around to posting some of those pictures I have from preschool years.  But for today, this sneak peek of your senior pictures will have to do.  Love you, sweet girl!
